Group entry: 2 animals AJC let me know there was some potentially aggressive behavior/bullying between birds so I went in to check. These both appear to be juvenile birds - no ASY as noted. As they exercise the smaller of the two seems more erratic and moves along the perch more frequently, and the larger assumes defensive posture and steps slightly toward the smaller if he gets within ~half the perch length. The smaller does fly away at that point. No injuries seen and no chasing or grabbing between them. Fine to stay together currently but made a note to watch behavior. Pellet still present in primary on R wing, will just have to grow out. Did PT - good ROM to start, pretty normal after a few extensions P: Leave bandage off. Check for wing droop in 2 days. Bandage was changed. BID: Alert staff if wrap is loose or off Bird is BAR but spending a lot of time on the ground. Consider moving somewhere else? Still thin but gaining, NOLO. Anesthetized with isoflurane for radiographs, gave 35 ml SQ LRS due to low body score. I was puzzled about the radiographs because of the apparent position of a pellet in the right wing. It appears to be in a primary shaft. Wanted to see if I could pinpoint the location better. Radiographs: pellet in RIGHT wing still appears to be very superficial or in a primary. Using a needle was able to pinpoint that pellet as being in the shaft of primary #2- confirmed by palpation. Will not attempt removal, will just need to molt out but hopefully will not cause problems. The LEFT ulna fracture is slightly displaced dorsally but healing well and there is already visible callous. There is a small scab at the feather shaft dorsally where there might have been pellet entry (there are feathers pulled into the scab). The pellet was slightly proximal and dorsal on the ulna. Located the approximate location of the pellet in the LEFT wing with a needle and moved upstairs to attempt retrieval. Cleaned area and made an incision over the approximate location. Enlarged incision slightly with blunt dissection, finally found the pellet somewhat embedded in the ulna. With a little scraping with forceps was able to gently pry from the ulna and pop out. Flushed area copiously then closed defect with 4-0 PDS. Did PT briefly - good ROM in all joints. Re-wrapped with SSD and Telfa over the incision, padded bandage. P: Start Amoxi clav in PM and continue x 5 days. Continue Meloxicam as well. PT every 2-3 days. Check incision during bandage change and I will recheck in 1 week. Dr Gardner

Anesthetized under 3% iso for intake rads. Rads confirmed a proximal L ulna fx and 2 pellets. Fx is well aligned and lead level is low. Severe swelling and bruising at elbow and along r/u. Unable to palpate either pellet. For now, rewrapped bird. Start PT. Drew blood from jugular for blood lead/PCV/CBC. When I spun the blood down, the serum was hemolyzed - didn't read, will need to collect another time. Recovery from GA was uneventful. FF some prepped FIC and placed back in kennel. L ulna fx, not fresh but still a little mobile, large callus forming. Feels about midshaft but cannot assess fully due to callus/swelling. Wrapped in padded fig 8. Thin, flat flies. Otherwise nsf on body. Did a quick eye exam - nothing glaringly wrong - but will need follow-up tmrw.
